A ‘blank canvas’ lightsaber hilts is a custom saber hilt designed specifically with DIY customization in mind. The hilt is not inspired by a particular character, although an individual could choose to customize a blank canvas hilt to somewhat resemble a character hilt. For example, a blank canvas hilt with dual emitter shrouds may be customized to resemble the Jaro Tapal/Cal Kestis lightsaber.

The elegant, flexible, and open design of a blank canvas hilt commonly favors customizations including (but not limited to): etching, powder coating, leather wrap, weathering, etc. The hilt usually features many open, smooth spaces along with some generic milled details, grooves and sometimes windows in the emitter. Several blank canvas style lightsabers, including the popular KR Sabers Flagship V2, include optional removable emitter shrouds that may be customized in their own right.
The KR Sabers Flagship V2 is one of the most well known blank canvas lightsaber hilts. Etcher and customizer Vaults of Valhala commonly uses KR Sabers Flagship V2 hilts in his projects. Additional custom saber companies are increasingly releasing other blank canvas hilt designs.
