Mace Windu Legacy Lightsaber is an officially licensed lightsaber hilt packaged into a plastic cargo style gray box. The hilt first became available in 2019 at Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities as Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland and Disney World.
In late 2021, the shopDisney website released a bundled variation called the Mace Windu Legacy Lightsaber Collectible Set. The collectible set comes in a different box than the standard version and also includes a blade, stand, and belt clip.

Dark Gray Legacy Lightsaber Cargo Box
The standard Mace Windu legacy lightsaber is packaged inside a dark gray, plastic cargo box with a clam-shell lid allows for easy transportation, storage and display of the legacy lightsaber. The sides of the box somewhat resembles the wings of an Imperial TIE fighter. Press down the Jedi Order chevron with a purple backdrop in order to unlatch and open the cargo box. The purple background denotes the purple blade color of the Mace Windu lightsaber (blade sold separately) and the Jedi Order chevron denotes Windu’s allegiance to the Jedi Order.
Although each legacy lightsaber comes in a similar cargo box, box sizes vary from from hilt to hilt. Additionally, the injection-molded tray inside the box forms to the shape of a specific hilt. A thin piece of black fabric covers the tray. Turn the box over to battery replacement instructions and a discreet sticker identifying the item as the ‘Mace Windu Legacy Lightsaber Hilt’.
Some fans enjoy customizing the cargo box in a couple ways. One common customization is decorating or weathering the exterior of the box. Another customization entails removing the interior tray and adding different padding.
What’s in the box?
The standard Mace Windu legacy lightsaber includes two main items: the Mace Windu legacy lightsaber hilt (3 AAA 1.5V batteries included, no blade) and the plastic cargo box.
Note that without a Galaxy’s Edge lightsaber blade (sold separately), the hilt serves as a display piece or cosplay piece only. Even though the hilt includes batteries, the hilt by itself will not light up or make any sounds without an attached blade.
Dok-Ondar’s Den sells Galaxy’s Edge lightsaber blades along with additional lightsaber accessories including:

- belt clip
- canvas lightsaber sheath
- holocrons and other items
If you’re looking for Galaxy’s Edge lightsaber blade alternatives, consider that the vast majority of custom blades (i.e. fan made/unofficial blades) are NOT compatible with legacy lightsabers. A rare exception is the custom Galaxy’s Edge compatible blade from Etsy seller Jaymoos Playground.
Hilt Description
The Mace Windu hilt is mostly metal and has a bit of heft to it. The shiny chrome silver and chrome gold is bright and vibrant. The chrome does shows smudges and fingerprints easily, however, so you may want to keep a microfleece cloth on hand for cleaning.
The design features a black rubber section at the top. Rounded black rubber vertical grips encircle the lower part of the hilt. The plastic black Covertec wheel pairs with the Galaxy’s Edge belt clip (sold separately).
Mace Windu Legacy Lightsaber with Blade Attached
After attaching the blade to the hilt, activate the lightsaber by sliding up one of the gold rectangular panels near the top of the hilt. The blade illuminates purple with progressive ignition (aka lightsaber scrolling effect) starting from the emitter and ending near the rounded tip of the blade.
Each legacy lightsaber model makes slightly different hum, swing, and clash sounds tailored to the particular character. The Mace Windu legacy lightsaber sounds like the character’s respective lightsaber in the Prequel Trilogy. The Flash on Clash visual effect causes the purple blade to briefly flicker upon impact with something.
Mace Windu Legacy Lightsaber Collectible Set
In 2021, shopDisney released a new bundle called the Mace Windu Legacy Lightsaber Collectible Set. The Collectible Set comes in a longer cardboard box INSTEAD of the plastic cargo box like the standard legacy lightsaber.
The Collectible Set includes the following items:
- Mace Windu legacy lightsaber hilt (batteries included)
- Galaxy’s Edge lightsaber blade
- vertical hilt stand
- belt clip
The collectible set is a convenient bundle since it includes most of the common accessories you’d want with the hilt. Note that the vertical stand included in the bundle differs from the Galaxy’s Edge lightsaber hilt stand available at Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities.
