Legacy Lightsabers from Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge: Everything You Need To Know
Legacy lightsabers are realistic, character lightsabers available exclusively at Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities. The store is located inside Star War Galaxy’s Edge, the ‘Star Wars Land’ at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. The lightsabers turn up on eBay [affiliate link] and other secondary markets as well, typically at a markup from the price inside the park.

How Many Legacy Lightsabers Are There?
Since 2019, Disney has released 19 different legacy lightsabers, two of which are actually pairs of two lightsabers. Disney continues to periodically add new lightsaber designs to the product lineup. In October 2020, Disney announced that as new lightsabers are released, “some previously released lightsabers will be retired”. After Disney retires the designs into the proverbial Disney Vault, it’s possible if not likely that the company will re-release the design at some point in the future.

What’s Included with Legacy Lightsabers?
Legacy lightsabers include a gray plastic cargo box with a Star Wars character’s lightsaber on the inside. The lightsabers include batteries, but will not activate or function without a blade.
Note that the Galaxy’s Edge lightsaber blade is sold separately from the lightsaber hilt. Although the lightsaber will not work without a blade, the hilt and cargo box make an attactive display piece.
The Ahsoka Tano Star Wars Rebels legacy lightsaber set and the Ahsoka Tano Star Wars The Clone Wars legacy lightsaber set each includes two lightsabers inside the box. All other legacy lightsabers include one lightsaber inside the box.
Galaxy’s Edge Lightsaber Blades for Legacy Lightsabers
In order for a legacy lightsaber to work, a user attaches a specialized Galaxy’s Edge lightsaber blade. After attaching the blade to the lightsaber hilt, the individual can activate the lightsaber. Once the legacy lightsaber is activated, the blade will illuminate and the individual can swing the lightsaber around to make humming, swinging, and clash sounds. The blades feature a Flash on Clash visual effect as well.

Galaxy’s Edge Lightsaber Blade Colors
The Galaxy’s Edge lightsaber blade is capable of illuminating in one of six different colors: red, blue, green, purple, yellow, or white. The blade color is pre-programmed into the legacy lightsaber hilt in order to match the suitable blade color for the character. For example, the Darth Vader legacy lightsaber will only illuminate red and the Mace Windu lightsaber will only illuminate purple. The Ahsoka Tano Legacy Lightsaber Set of 2 (The Clone Wars) may illuminate blue or green (it is the only color changing legacy lightsaber, as of 2022).
Galaxy’s Edge Lightsaber Blade Lengths
Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities sells two Galaxy’s Edge lightsaber blade lengths: 26 inches or 36 inches. The 36 inch blade is a full length blade. The 26 inch blade may make lightsaber maneuvering easier for children or individuals with limited space. Elsewhere in Galaxy’s Edge, the Savi’s Workshop lightsaber includes a 31 inch blade. The Savi’s Workshop lightsaber blade is compatible with legacy lightsabers. So if you already have a Savi’s Workshop lightsaber, then you don’t need to buy an additional blade for your legacy lightsaber.
Custom Blades Compatible with Legacy Lightsabers
The vast majority of custom lightsaber blades (i.e. fan made/unlicensed) from custom saber companies DO NOT work with any Galaxy’s Edge lightsabers. An extremely rare exception is the custom JaymoosPlayground Savi’s Workshop/legacy lightsaber compatible blade.
Legacy Lightsaber Connectors/Couplers
Most legacy lightsabers do not include couplers. Generally if the lightsaber isn’t a saberstaff in onscreen in Star Wars, then Galaxy’s Edge doesn’t include a coupler with the hilt.
The Darth Maul legacy lightsaber and the Asajj Ventress legacy lightsaber each include a coupler. The coupler is situated inside the the legacy lightsaber box under the plastic tray under the lightsaber hilt. An individual may purchase two Darth Maul legacy lightsabers or two Asajj Ventress lightsabers and connect them together to form a saberstaff. The coupler may only connect together two of the same legacy lightsabers (i.e. the coupler included with the Darth Maul lightsaber only connects two Darth Maul lightsabers together).
Etsy seller Order66Studios [affiliate link] (formerly known as JawaCargoHold) offers fan-made, custom 3D printed couplers specifically designed for the Jedi Temple Guard legacy lightsaber. The seller makes both folding and non-folding designs.
Legacy Lightsabers and Galaxy’s Edge Kyber Crystals
Although Dok Ondar’s Den of Antiquities sells a wide selection of kyber crystals, the kyber crystals DO NOT work with legacy lightsabers. Kyber crystals only work with Savi’s Workshop lightsabers and with Galaxy’s Edge Jedi and Sith holocrons.
Although the Maul Shadow legacy lightsaber features a crystal chamber with an embedded kyber crystal, the kyber crystal is not removable from the hilt.
Legacy Lightsaber Stands, Bags and Accessories
Dok Ondar’s Den of Antiquities sells several additional accessories for legacy lightsabers. The store sells a carrying bag with a strap for the hilt and blade, a belt clip for wearing the hilt, and a lightsaber stand for displaying the lightsaber hilt without the blade. The store also sells costuming items like Jedi robes and other complementary items like holocrons.
Many Star Wars fans, especially on Etsy [affiliate link], offer custom lightsabers stands, bags and accessories that work with legacy lightsabers as well.
