Black Lightsabers in Star Wars Canon

The black-bladed lightsaber entered Star Wars Canon in “The Mandalore Plot”, a 2010 episode of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The episode introduces the Darksaber, the only black-bladed lightsaber in Star Wars Canon.

Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian Jedi, is attributed with constructing the black-bladed Darksaber. The ancient weapon emits a short, flat blade similar in shape and appearance to a sword. Mandalorian tradition stipulates that the only legitimate way to earn possession of the Darksaber is to defeat the weapon’s previous owner in battle.

Also, players of Star Wars: The Old Republic may construct lightsabers with a black core instead of the standard white core.
