Green Jedi: The Mysterious Group of Old Republic Jedi

The Green Jedi are an enclave of Corellian Jedi who operate in the Corellian Sector of the Core Words. Members of the group are known to wear green robes and articles of clothing, denoting their fierce loyalty to their homeworld. When given the choice, many of the enclave’s Jedi prioritize loyalty to Corellia over loyalty to the Republic and the Jedi Order. The enclave’s numbers peak during the Old Republic era. Jedi Corran Horn’s Halcyon/Horn family line includes many Green Jedi.

Green Jedi

Origins

Established during the Old Republic era, the Green Jedi enclave maintains loose ties with the Jedi Order. Green Jedi operate mostly independently of their traditional counterparts, however, and do not take orders from the Jedi High Council. They establish their own Jedi Council to oversee operations of the group. Group headquarters are at the Green Jedi Enclave. The Enclave, a heavily fortified building, is located in the Government District of Coronet City, Corellia’s capital city.

The orthodox Jedi Order views the enclave with hesitation and distrust due to different operating methods. Through the years, Green Jedi develop a variety of practices and traditions that differ from the ways of the Jedi Order. One such tradition includes permitting Green Jedi to marry. Another tradition is the passing down of a Jedi Credit, a decorative token, to an individual when they ascend to the rank of Jedi Master.

The largely pacifist group emphasizes developing non-combat applications of the Force. In addition to undertaking peacekeeping duties, group members also coordinate with the local Corellian Security Force to help solve crimes and capture smugglers in the sector.

Great Galactic War

Following the outbreak of the Great Galactic War between the Republic and Sith Empire, the Green Jedi fortify their Enclave in anticipation of war. Although the Jedi manage to fend off one Sith invasion attempt, the Sith Empire eventually sacks the Enclave and kills the entire Green Jedi Council. In the aftermath of the invasion, some Green Jedi survive and continue to resist the invaders through underground operations.

New Sith Wars

During the New Sith Wars, the Corellian Jedi remain in their own sector and manage to restructure their organization. A Jedi Lord oversees their operations. They fend off Sith forces from encroaching on the area. When the Jedi High Council asks the Green Jedi for assistance, the group defies their isolationist tendencies and align with the legendary Lord Hoth and his Army of the Light. The Jedi High Council ultimately fails to recognize the group’s critical contributions to the war effort. Instead, the Jedi Order’s leadership largely shun the group and deem them heretics. The Corellian Jedi become even more isolated for many years thereafter.

Clone Wars and the Great Jedi Purge

For many generations, the elusive Green Jedi avoid entanglements with the Jedi Order and mostly keep to themselves. In the events leading up to the Clone Wars, two dozen Jedi return to Coruscant and swear allegiance to the Republic over their homeworld. Following the enactment of Order 66 and the ensuing Great Jedi Purge, Imperial forces wipe out nearly all of the Green Jedi.

Corran Horn Revives the Enclave

Corran Horn, son of Order 66 survivor Valin Horn, learns the ways of the Force under the guidance of Luke Skywalker. Horn reestablished a small Jedi training center on Corellia some time before 40 ABY. In the outbreak of the Second Galactic Civil Wars in 40 ABY, the Corellian government deems all Jedi enemies of the state. The center’s younglings and other Jedi manage to escape the planet, but the training center is destroyed. They resume training at the Jedi Academy on Ossus.
