Jedi Armor: Protective Gear for Clone Wars Battle and Beyond

Jedi Armor typically refers to modified clone trooper armor worn by some Jedi during the Clone Wars. Not all Jedi of the era elect to use clone trooper armor. Nevertheless front-line Jedi military officers in particular, including Jedi Generals and Jedi Commanders, commonly choose to wear armor on the battle field for extra protection. Some Old Republic era Jedi during the New Sith Wars wear additional protective gear as well.

Origins

During times of peace, Jedi commonly wear robes and other traditional attire. After the start of the Clone Wars, many Jedi find traditional Jedi robes alone do not adequately protect an individual on the battlefield against large numbers of simultaneous attackers. As a result, some Jedi begin wearing armor.

Most Jedi armor of the era is derived from standard-issue clone trooper armor made from form-fitting plastoid plates. The armor works well again impact, pressure, heat, and vapors. The armor offers some protection against blaster fire as well, but could succumb to a direct hit from laser fire.

Jedi do not typically wear an entire suit of clone trooper armor during the Clone Wars. Instead, a Jedi would strategically select the largest and most important pieces of armor in order to avoid hindering their movement while using the Force and wielding a lightsaber.

Obi-Wan Kenobi famously wears Jedi armor in both Clone Wars (2003) and The Clone Wars (2008). A Jedi Order symbol adorns his shoulder pauldron, denoting his allegiance to the Jedi. Anakin Skywalker also wears some protective gear.

Old Republic Jedi Armor

Prior to the Clone Wars, some Jedi wear armor during the New Sith Wars during the Old Republic era. Typical armor consists of: bracers, shoulder pads, boots, thigh plates, chest plate, and abdomen guard. A Jedi wears the segmented armor under a traditional Jedi robe.

The strength of the armor ranges depending on requirements of the wearer. Although heavy plate armor better protects against blaster fire, the protection is cumbersome and decreases the maneuverability of the wearer. Many of their Sith counterparts of the era wear armor on the battlefield as well.
