What is a crown emitter? | Lightsaber Terminology

A crown emitter is a lightsaber emitter style featuring a series of cutouts encircling the top of the hilt that create the appearance of the prongs or points on a crown. A crown is a circular ornamental headdress worn by a monarch. The quantity, size, and shape of the crown prongs on a crown emitter varies from design to design. Crown emitters feature at least three prongs.

A crown emitter may add a sense of regality and sophistication to a lightsaber hilt. Some crown emitter designs may also resemble emitter claws, adding an ominous dark side tone to the lightsaber hilt. The cutouts in the crown emitter expose the lightsaber blade in similar manner as windows in the emitter. The primarily difference is the top of the cutouts in a crown emitter are open, whereas cutout windows in the emitter are fully immersed and bordered by the hilt.

Depending on the hilt design, a lightsaber with a crown emitter may not be favorable or safe for lightsaber dueling due to the protruding points or prongs. Ask your saber dueling organization if the specific hilt design is acceptable.
