You may have noticed Facebook or Instagram ads for a $29.99 lightsaber. The advertised lightsaber may even look like a Force FX lightsaber or the product may be called something similar to ‘Force FX.’ Unfortunately, it is NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE to find an authentic, Star Wars: The Black Series Force FX lightsaber for $30. The price is simply too low. Brand new Force FX lightsaber retail for $150 or $200. Some of the retired or hard to find models, like the Obi-Wan Kenobi and Yoda Force FX lightsabers, may even sell for a higher price than retail.

Unfortunately, Facebook and Instagram scammers are exploiting the popularity of Force FX lightsabers, and lightsaber in general. The ad will use ‘Force FX’ in the title or a similar sounding name. Also, the ad may use a photo of a $150+ lightsaber, but the product buyers report receiving is a different, inferior, often plastic toy.
An inexpensive Force FX lightsaber would cost around $100 new or possibly a bit cheaper used. Around the time of May 4th, 2018 (Star Wars Day), Amazon discounted several Force FX lightsaber models to about $100-$120. Even used Force FX lightsabers often sell for a $100 or so. Even broken Force FX lightsabers often sell for more than $30 (yes, broken!).
You can sometimes find Force FX lightsaber for around $100 or $120 on eBay. Amazon prices many of the Force FX lightsabers between $120 and $180, depending on the model. Some of the rarer lightsabers will sell for more.
Watch out for very low priced lightsabers claiming to be Force FX lightsabers on Facebook, Instragram and elsewhere on the internet. Research the item, description and vendor before purchasing. When in doubt, get a second opinion and ask people in a lightsaber Facebook group, forums, on reddit, etc. if the product and company look legitimate. More likely than not, however, if the $30 price seems too good to be true, it probably is.
