What’s the average size of a lightsaber hilt? (i.e. length and diameter)

Lightsaber hilts come in a range of shapes and sizes. The smallest diameter lightsaber hilt is typically around 1.25 inches in diameter–some Vader’s Vault lightsabers are that size. Ultrasabers Intiate V2 hilts are 1.375 inches in diameter, which is also considered a small diameter for a lightsaber hilt. Smaller diameter lightsaber hilts work well with kids and people with smaller hands.

Conversely, some of the the larger diameter lightsaber hilts can measure 1.7 inches in diameter or larger. The Star Wars The Black Series Kylo Ren Force FX lightsaber flares out to a whopping 2 inches in diameter at the pommel area. The Ultrasabers Dark Mantis hilt is 1.7 inches in diameter. Several mid-range to high end Ultrasabers hilts are large is diameter.

Like lightsaber hilt diameter, lightsaber hilt length varies as well. Shoto lightsabers, which are shorter hilts will be 8.75 inches or so, like the Ultrasabers Initiate V2. Saberforge shoto sabers are about 9 inches long, with some variation depending on the hilt model. Longer lightsaber hilts will be closer to 12 or 13 inches. Saber staffs, pikes, double-bladed lightsabers could easily use a 24 inch long lightsaber hilt or more.

Lightsaber hilt size varies from company to company and even within each company. Vader’s Vault is known for using smaller diameter lightsaber hilts overall. Ultrasabers offers both lightsabers with a small diameter and length (like Initiate V2) and lightsabers with a large diameter and length (like the Dark Mantis, Electrum Wind, The Guardian, etc).

Common lightsaber sizes (approximate):
Small lightsaber hilt diameter: 1.25-1.375 inches
Large lightsaber hilt diameter: 1.6-1.7 inches or more
Small lightsaber hilt length: 9 inches
Large lightsaber hilt length: 12-13 inches or more
Double-bladed lightsaber hilt length: 20-24 inches or more
