Saberkraft Big Boy Lightsaber | New Saber Alert

The Saberkraft Big Boy lightsaber has been unveiled. The custom saber, a thin neck saber, is inspired by the design of the Jacen Solo lightsaber. The Big Boy lightsaber is available as a DIY friendly empty hilt made from aluminum and capable of accepting electronics. Saberkraft released an initial run of the Big Boy lightsaber in 2016 and a second run in 2017.

Saberkraft Big Boy Lightsaber Design and Specs

The Saberkraft Big Boy lightsaber is machined out of 5083 and 6082 aluminum with copper, brass and PVC accents. The hilt features sandblasted detail–all of the hilt colors are natural and not painted.

The Big Boy lightsaber hilt measures 310 mm long and accepts a 1 inch diameter blade (thin or thick walled, blade not included). The outside diameter (OD) is about 41.4 mm ( and the insider diameter (ID) is about 32.3 mm. The grooved, grenade style grip section has an OD of 39.9 mm. The maximum OD in the pommel and emitter section is 50.0 mm. The narrowest part of the hilt, the thin neck section, has an OD of 19.0 mm and and ID of 14.0 mm.

The Big Boy hilt kit includes an LED heatsink with an ID of 20.3 mm and inner height of 33.8 mm. The heatsink is compatible with TRI-CREE and Rebel Star LED. The kit includes a cable organizer ring with simple circuit board (for easy soldering) and a chassis called Saberthorax. The chassis is designed to hold a 18650 Li-Ion battery and 28 mm speaker and features a sound card space that measures 23.5 x 53.5 x 8.0 mm.

The Big Boy lightsaber hilt is comprised of a bell-shaped emitter, brass thin neck section and a grooved, grenade style upper grip section. A pre-wired activation box is situated in the lower part of the hilt (the wires are installed to the LEDs, switches and USB port). A hidden activation switch and aux switch are tucked under the activation box’s copper plate. Both are momentary switches. The kit includes 3 accent LEDs that may be used to illuminate the side of the activation box area. A copper slide switch may be used as a kill key or as a latching switch for saber installations. A Covertec knob attaches to the lower part of the hilt. A vented pommel, with a notched design, caps off the end of the hilt.

The Big Boy lightsaber, an empty hilt, is suitable for display or cosplay. If the hilt is installed with electronics, the lightsaber designed for light to medium dueling only and not heavy dueling.
