Sabertrio Abruptly Closes Due to Coronavirus Related Parts Shortages

Lightsaber company Sabertrio announced they are temporarily closing their store and that “everything is out of stock for the next 2 – 3 months” due to delays from parts manufactured in China. “Right now, we are experiencing severe delays for components from China,” Sabertrio stated in a post on their Facebook page, “and this is due to the current…coronavirus outbreak.”

Sabertrio is a Malaysia based custom saber company. Sabertrio lightsabers are assembled in Malaysia using parts from around the world, including: the United States, France, UK, Malaysia and China.

“[W]e feel that it is simply too risky to continue accepting orders at this moment.” Sabertrio said. “[W]e think the best course of action now is to focus on the outstanding orders we have while continuously building up ourselves more to serve you better in the not so distant future.”

Sabertrio, like many custom saber companies, has seen their order volume skyrocket and has struggled to meet demand since November 2019, likely due to the holiday season and increased interest in lightsabers following the release of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian and the movie Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. The company previously announced the temporary closing of their Etsy store in order to focus on orders from the Sabertrio website.

Despite the parts shortages, the company will release their newest lightsaber, Sabertrio Vektra, on Thursday, January 30, 2020 at 10am EST, as originally planned. The lightsaber will available for purchase on the Sabertrio website. The initial run is limited to only 30 sabers, however, and the lead time for Vektra is currently estimated at 12 to 22 weeks.

Sabertrio says that all existing Sabertrio orders will continue to be processed and shipped, although some orders may incur delays due to parts shortages. The company states that they are currently exploring alternative parts sourcing options and will continue to post updates on the Sabertrio Facebook page.
