The Star Wars Pepsi MTT Battle Droid Can Cooler Box is a rare (and a bit bizarre) item that was exclusively available in Japan. Limited to 10,000 units, Pepsi released the item in 2000 in Japan as a promotional product for the film Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Special thanks to eBay user Ninja Nerd for providing the photos for this article.

Where to Buy a Star Wars Pepsi MTT Can Cooler
Released in 2000, the MTT Can Cooler was a promotional item from Pepsi Japan with a limited availability. Some eBay sellers like Nerd Ninja offer the item secondhand, but they don’t come cheap. Not surprisingly, nearly all of the secondhand can coolers ship from sellers located in Japan.
What’s an MTT?
The Trade Federation utilized Multi-Troop Transport (MTT) vehicles during the Invasion of Naboo. Manufactured by Baktoid Armor Workshop, the armored transports may carry and deploy up to 112 B1-series battle droids. The vehicle first appears in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999).
Description of the MTT Battle Droid Can Cooler
The brown, hard-shell plastic cooler features the iconic shape and detailing of the MTT in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999). Cooler measures about 24 inches long, 17 inches tall and 14 inches wide. A convenient carrying-handle tops the transport.

How do you access your beverages? Open the front hatch. The hatch locks in place in the open position. Slide out the rectangular gray storage tray to reveal your “army” of soda cans (that you provide) with 10 battle droid can toppers! One topper is a Battle Droid Commander with yellow accents while the other nine are standard battle droids. Roger, roger!
Cooler includes straws for each lid, too. Cooler also includes a basic ice pack bottle. Fill up the bottle with water and freeze in advance in order to keep your cargo (i.e. beverages) cool and ready for action.

A Few Limitations
The cooler uses thick plastic which is a bit larger and cumbersome to move around. Additionally, based many of the secondhand listings, it seems somewhat easy to scratch or even chip off a pieces of the exterior of the plastic cooler. While the cooler mostly lacks practicality, the item certainly excels in showmanship and drama.

Pepsi Japan Star Wars Episode I Limited Edition Cans
Note that Pepsi Japan released a series limited edition Star Wars Episode I Pepsi cans around the same time as the MTT cooler was available. The Pepsi Japan Star Wars cans feature full color images of Star Wars Episode I characters. United States readers many remember the American Star Wars Episode I Pepsi cans used black and white images instead.
