Indigo Lightsabers in Star Wars Canon

Cal Kestis may optionally wield an indigo lightsaber. Kestis is a surviving Jedi Padawan of the Clone Wars and fugitive of the Empire.

Kestis is the playable character in the video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The player may select the indigo from an assortment of 8 blade color options during game play. In the sequel game, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the player may select indigo from an even wider assortment of 11 blade color options.

Indigo Lightsabers in Star Wars Legends

Despite the expansive variety of playable lightsaber blade colors in the video game Star Wars: The Old Republic, a dedicated indigo lightsaber is NOT a color option in the Massive Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game (MMRPG). The game does feature a Blue-Cyan-Indigo Color Crystal, however, which incorporates indigo in the blade color.

Behind the Scenes

The indigo lightsaber first appears in Star Wars Canon in the video game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019). Indigo is one of the 8 playable blade colors in the game. The blade color appears again in the sequel video game Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (2023).

Indigo is one of the traditional seven colors of the rainbow, situated between blue and violet. The color is named after a plant called indigo, which was historically used for naturally dyeing cloth. The earliest evidence of human use of indigo dates back to 4000 BCE in what is modern day Peru. Original blue jeans also utilized indigo dye to give the apparel its “blue” color.

Indigo Lightsaber Color Theory

An indigo lightsaber blade may connote calm, wisdom, spirituality and intuition. The blade color combines blue, an extremely traditional and common lightsaber color, with purple, a more unorthodox color. Wielding an indigo blade may signal that individual embodies a blend of a traditional and unorthodox approach.
