The Darth Maladi lightsaber is a single-bladed red lightsaber wielded by Darth Maladi. Darth Maladi is a Legacy of the Force era Devaronian Sith Lord who serves the One Sith Empire. Darth Krayt kills both of her parents when she is young. Seeing her Force potential, Krayt raises her and trains her on the Sith homeworld Korriban. Like the lightsabers of many other One Sith members, the Darth Maladi lightsaber hilt has an organic, craggy, coral-like appearance.

Darth Maladi Lightsaber in Star Wars Legends

Like the lightsaber hilts of many Sith in the One Sith Empire, the Darth Maladi lightsaber hilt is comprised of a craggy, yorik coral-like material. The lightsaber emits a red blade.

The individual who would become Darth Maladi is born on the planet Devaron to a Devaronian parents. Her father is a Jedi. While she is young, Darth Krayt arrives on Devaron and kills both of her parents. Noticing her Force potential, Krayt raises an trains the child on Korriban, the Sith homeworld. She takes on the name Maladi and ascends to the rank of Sith Lord.

Maladi becomes a prolific and distinguished member of the One Sith Empire. A student and practitioner Yuuzhan Vong bioengineering and Sith alchemy, she serves as a scientist and the primary physician of the One Sith Empire. She also becomes the Director of Sith Intelligence and Assassination.

Sith-Imperial War

In 122 ABY, the New Jedi Order and the Yuuzhan Vong launch a massive and ambitious campaign to heal and revitalize hundred of planets. The campaign is known as the Ossus Project. Darth Maladi successfully sabotages the Ossus Project, causing widespread pain and suffering and facilitating the start of the galaxy-wide Sith-Imperial War.

Seeking to take control of the Empire, Darth Krayt orchestrates the assassination of Emperor Roan Fel. Krayt and his followers kill a body double. Emperor Roan Fel goes into exile. The One Sith continue searching for him, endeavoring to kill Fel, his Imperial Knight, and also any of the remaining Jedi in the galaxy.

Finding Roan Fel and Capturing Cade Skywalker

Darth Krayt commands Darth Maladi to find Cade Skywalker, a member of the famed Skywalker family. Meanwhile, Maladi locates Emperor-in-exile Roan Fel on Bastion. Imperial troops on the planet Bastion remain loyal to Roan Fel and reject the rule of the One Sith Empire. As part of a larger plan, she assigns Darth Kruhl to infiltrate the planet and assassinate the Fel. Fel kills Kruhl in a lightsaber duel, sending the Darth Kruhl lightsaber back to the One Sith Empire as a message.

Cade Skywalker attempts to rescue the Jedi Hosk Trey’lis from the Sith Temple. The One Sith Empire captures Skywalker during his rescue attempt. Krayt attempts to lure Skywalker to the dark side, however Skywalker ultimate escapes. Maladi oversees the healing of several One Sith members who were injured in the escape.

Battle of Had Abaddon

Darth Krayt, Darth Maladi, and several additional One Sith members are lured into a trap on Had Abaddon. Cade Skywalker and his Jedi and Imperial Knight companions ambush the Sith. A fierce lightsaber battle ensues among the combatants. Maladi and several other One Sith members are severely wounded in the battle. The One Sith return to Coruscant. Darth Wyyrlok claims that the severly injured Krayt is put in stassis on the Sith homeworld Korriban. Wyyrlok takes control of the One Sith Empire. Maladi and other One Sith survivors of the battle believe that Krayt died in combat and that Wyyrlok is making a power grab.

Maladi develops a powerful bioweapon. She lures Cade Skywalker to her lab as a test subject. After enduring torturous tests, Skywalker gives into his anger. Maladi sets the lab to self destruct and leaves Skywalker to die.

Omega Red

Imperial troops loyal to Roan Fel stumble onto a comatose Darth Maladi. She is secretly imprisoned on Bastion. After awakening, she meets with Roan Fel and tempts him the biotoxin Omega Red in exchange for Cade Skywalker. She claims the biotoxin can wipe out a planet. Fel initially declines her offer, refusing to use the same techniques as his enemies. When he becomes desperate to defeat the One Sith, he accepts her offer on the gronds that she unleashes the biotoxin before he presents her Skywalker. Unbeknownst to Fel, Maladi designed Omega Red to destroy the enemies of One Sith. The dark side One Sith members themselves are immune to its effects.

When Fel gives into the dark side and decides to use the bioweapon, his own Imperial Knights thwart his plan and kill him. Meanwhile, Cade Skywalker kills Krayt in a lightsaber duel. Darth Nihl succeeds Krayt as the leader of the One Sith and Maladi returns to her secret lab.

The fate of Darth Maladi is unknown.

The Darth Maladi lightsaber appears in the Dark Horse comic book series’ Star Wars: Legacy (2006-2010) and Star Wars: Legacy-War (2010-2011).
