An aggressive fighter, Darth Nihilus uses a one-handed lightsaber combat style. Nihilus is proficient in many extremely powerful and depleting dark side Force abilities as well.

Prior to becoming a Sith Lord, the man who would become Nihilus loses everything during the Mandalorian Wars including his family, friends, and even the will to live. He nevertheless survives the activation of the Mass Shadow Generator, a devastating superweapon that obliterates almost everything on and near the planet Malachor. Following the ordeal, he constantly and increasingly craves Force energy, an affliction that ravages his physical body and makes him a catastrophic weakness in the fabric of the Force itself. The Sith Lord Darth Traya offers the man apprenticeship, telling him she can help teach him to feed his insatiable hunger for Force energy. The man accepts, takes the name Darth Nihilus, and begins his lifelong journey as a Sith.

Darth Nihilus feeds on Force energy by seeking out, depleting and ultimately killing Force sensitives and locations rich in the Force. Nihilus uses the Force to successfully transfer and contain his consciousness into his armor in order to escape death.

Behind the Scenes

The Darth Nihilus lightsaber first appeared in Star Wars Legends in the video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords (2004). The name “Nihilus” is derived from the word “nihilist” which is an individual who views life as senseless and meaningless. The skull-like Darth Nihilus mask design is inspired by the character No-Face, an antagonist in the Japanese animated film Spirited Away (2001).
