The Darth Maul lightsaber features an intriguing weathered or battle damaged appearance. Most Master Replicas lightsabers are offered in As First Built By (i.e new) condition, so a battle damaged lightsaber is a bit less common. How is exactly is the Darth Maul lightsaber hilt “battle damaged”? The overall hilt features a tarnished finish, pock-marked with intermittent scuffs and battle scars in the metal.
Several of the hilt details make the Darth Maul lightsaber standout. Turning the hilt to the side, you can see the ridges on the thumbscrew pieces: the two grayish thumbscrews have straight knurling and the two red thumbscrews have diamond knurling. Most of the hilt is metal, but the hilt features a few decorative, black rubber o-rings as well. The hilt does feature a Master Replicas and Lucasfilm 2004 copyright notice printed faintly around the top of the emitter section.
My favorite part of the Darth Maul lightsaber replica is on the very bottom. Normally, a pommel would cover the end of a lightsaber hilt. Since the hilt appears to be the Darth Maul lightsaber split in half during battle, the hilt features an exposed kyber crystal on the bottom instead of a pommel. Master Replicas produced a full-length, As First Built By mini Darth Maul lightsaber in 2005. The full-length, mini Darth Maul lightsaber was a Master Replicas Collectors Society Exclusive.
The Master Replicas lightsaber stand is tailored the specific hilt. The stand is comprised of three pieces: a black base and two forks or prongs that support the hilt. The black base is engraved with gold-colored writing that reads “Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace Darth Maul Lightsaber”. The two prongs are different from each other. The smooth prong is intended to hold the smooth body section of the hilt. The more jagged prong accommodates the more jagged emitter section.
