Jedi Food Capsules: Everything You Need to Know
Jedi food capsules, sometimes called energy capsules, are small and portable survival rations carried by some members of the Jedi Order prior to the Galactic Empire’s rise to power. Jedi often attach multiple containers to their Jedi utility belt alongside pouches and other essential items. The tiny, spherical energy pellets inside the capsules may sustain a Jedi during a faraway mission or long space journey.

Behind the Scenes
Jedi food capsules first appear in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999). Characters Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn and Anakin Skywalker wear the capsules in the story. Several Jedi wear the items in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002) and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005) as well. The reference book Star Wars: The Visual Encyclopedia (2017) mentions and provides a closeup photograph of the capsules.
The original food capsule props are made from painted pen caps. Specifically, a 7/16″ diameter hemisphere attaches to the open end of Staedtler Liquid Roller Point Pen. The resulting assembly is painted gold, silver or bronze. Find more details about the prop on partsofsw.com.
