The Ky Narec lightsaber is a single-bladed green lightsaber wielded Jedi Ky Narec. Ky Narec is a Rise of the Empire era human male Jedi Knight who serves the Jedi Order during the waning years of the Republic prior to the Clone Wars. He selects Asajj Ventress as his Jedi Padawan. After a sniper kills Narec from behind, an enraged Ventress kills the sniper and begins her journey to the dark side of the Force.

Ky Narec Lightsaber in Star Wars Canon
Ky Narec is born in 80 BBY and learns the ways of the Force at the Jedi Temple on Corsucant. As a Jedi initiate, he is a member of the Heliost Clan and studies lightsaber combat under the guidance of Jedi Master Tera Sinube. Jedi Master Mana selects Narec as a Padawan and he eventually ascends to the rank of Jedi Knight.
During his travels as a Jedi Knight, Ky Narec becomes stranded on the planet Rattatak encounters a group of raiders. A Dathomirian slave girl named Asajj Ventress uses the Force to throw one of the raiders. Seeing her potential, Narec raise and trains Ventress as a Jedi. They both remain on Rattatak for ten years helping the local people. Though they are generally liked and appreciated by the local people, a warlord name Osika Kirske plots to kill Narec and make Ventress a gladiator in his arena.
Raiders attack Narec and Ventress and each ignites their own respective lightsaber. One of the raiders fires a single blaster bolt that strikes and kills Narec from behind. An enraged Ventress picks up her fallen master’s lightsaber. Wielding the weapon alongside her own lightsaber, Ventress uses Jar’Kai, a dual lightsaber fighting technique, against the raiders.

Ky Narec is a Jedi Knight who serves the Jedi Order in the waning years of the Republic prior to the Clone Wars. A group of raiders attack Narec when he becomes stranded on the planet Rattatak. Witnessing the encounter, Asajj Ventress, a Dathomirian slave girl uses the Force to throw one of the raiders.
Narec raise and trains Ventress as a Jedi on Rattatak. They both remain on Rattatak for a span of ten years helping the local people. Although they are generally liked and appreciated by the local people, a warlord name Osika Kirske dispatches raiders to kill Narec. A single blaster bolt strikes Narec in the back, killing him. An enraged Ventress picks up her fallen master’s lightsaber. Wielding the weapon along with her own lightsaber, Ventress uses Jar’Kai, a dual lightsaber fighting technique, against the raiders.
Ventress Keeps the Ky Narec Lightsaber
The encounter leads Ventress on the path to the dark side. She eventually aligns herself with Count Dooku and the Confederacy of the Independent Systems and fights against the Jedi during the Clone Wars. Ventress keeps Narec’s lightsaber for years after his death and stores the weapon in a box in her palace on Rattatak.
Obi-Wan Kenobi finds the Ky Narec lightsaber and wields the green-bladed weapon along with his own against Asajj Ventress. Ventress is armed with her two curved-hilt red lightsabers. Recognizing the Ky Narec lightsaber, she becomes angry, calling Kenobi a “thief and a defiler” for using her fallen master’s weapon. She demands he give the lightsaber back to her. Kenobi leaps onto a Republic ship to leaves. He takes the Ky Narec lightsaber with him. He tells Ventress to let go of her anger and fear because the emotions will not bring her master back.
Behind the Scenes
The Ky Narec lightsaber first appears in Star Wars Canon in a flashback in “Nightsisters” (2011), an episode of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars (TCW) animated television series. The lightsaber first appears in Star Wars Legends in the comic book Star Wars Republic 60: Hate and Fear (2004). The storyline tells the origin story of Asajj Ventress. The lightsaber features a generic, clan saber design in TCW while the lightsaber in Star Wars Republic 60 is an original design.
