A flanged emitter is a lightsaber emitter section style that features a rim or lip that flares out near the top of the hilt. Flanged emitters vary in diameter and thickness, however, the feature is commonly flat on the top, extending to one of the widest diameters of the entire lightsaber hilt. Some flanged emitters feature a circle of pinholes on the top as well.

Behind the Scenes
The Obi-Wan Kenobi ANH lightsaber is the first ever lightsaber to feature a flanged emitter. Star Wars: A New Hope prop makers constructed the screen used Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber hilt prop out of real world parts. A Rolls Royce Derwent jet engine balance pipe serves as the lightsaber’s emitter.
