Lightsaber-Wielding Darth Vader Commands International Space Station on Halloween

The Force is strong with this one. Alexander Gerst, a German European Space Agency astronaut, became a lightsaber-wielding Darth Vader for Halloween on the International Space Station (ISS) this year. Gerst, a geophysicist, is the current Commander of the International Space Station. Yes, you read right, Darth Vader actually commanded a space station in real life. At least on Halloween.

Gerst’s fellow crewmembers also donned costumes for the holiday. Russian cosmonaut Sergey Prokopyev dressed up as Elvis, complete with guitar, sunglasses and fake sideburns and NASA astronaut Serena Auñón-Chancellor dressed up as a mad scientist.

The ISS crew wears costumes for Halloween every year.
