Jabba the Hutt LEGO ‘Big Figure’ Through The Years: You Know that Laugh

As of 2022, LEGO has manufactured two different Jabba the Hutt big figures: a sand green figure (first released in 2002) and an olive green figure (first released in 2012). Jabba the Hutt is one of the most powerful, vengeful, and notorious gangsters in the Star Wars Galaxy. Jabba, a slug-like creature, oversees his criminal empire from his palace on the desert planet Tatooine.

A Tale of Two Jabbas: ‘Classic’ LEGO Jabba vs ‘New’ LEGO Jabba Comparison

Classic Sand Green Jabba (2003 to 2006)

LEGO’s original Jabba the Hutt figure is sand green in color and features a moveable sand green tail and tail end piece. Figure body features the head, torso and an arms/hands assembly (non-removable). Figure’s arm’s can move up and down and hands can hold an accessory. The tail pieces is also used with some dinosaurs and elephants outside the Star Wars subtheme. The tail end piece is a common animal body part, appearing in nearly 200 different sets.

Jabba big figure is solid sand green with curved details and no added colors or patterns. The figure is more basic and much less detailed than 2012 version.

A more recent LEGO Jabba the Hutt figure is olive green in color and features orange eyes and a tan face pattern (may be some color variation from figure to figure). Unlike the previous version, the 2012 version of Jabba features a head is capable of swiveling around–up to 360 degrees. The two unique Jabba arm/hand piece attach to either side of the figure’s head/torso piece. Like the 2003 version, the arms on the figure may move up and down and the hands may hold an accessory.

A combined lower body/tail piece with stripes pattern completes the figure. The lower body/tail piece is fixed (i.e. not moveable) and is unique to the Jabba figure–no other LEGO figures or animals utilize the piece.

LEGO Jabba in Film

Jabba appears in the 22-minute film LEGO Star Wars: The Padawan Menace (2011). The movie first aired on Cartoon Network on July 22, 2011 and was subsequently released on Blu-ray and DVD the same year. In the course of the story line, Jabba sentences several characters to death including: C-3PO, R2-D2 and multiple Jedi padawans.
