Lys Solay Lightsaber in Star Wars Canon
The Lys Solay lightsaber is comprised of a metal hilt with a silver and gold color scheme, a common color scheme among High Republic era lightsabers. Hilt, which is shorter than a standard hilt and sized for younglings, is mostly cylindrical with a flared emitter. As a training lightsaber, the weapon is calibrated to a less powerful and dangerous setting in order to facilitate safe training for initiates. Solay wears on her left hip in a purple lightsaber holster. The holster features a mouse-like creature on the front.
Lys Solay, a female Pantoran, begins her Jedi training during the High Republic era. She trains at the Jedi Temple on Tenoo, a planet in the Outer Rim Territories. Grand Master Yoda oversees training at the temple. She befriends fellow Jedi younglings Kai Brightstar and Nubs during her training along with a young pilot named Nash Durango.
Solay, Brightstar, and Nubs work together as a team to hone their lightsaber skills against a training droid. The trio also attempts to complete a Jedi training obstacle course before a timer expires. They fail one attempt when Brightstar splits his attention between recovering his lightsaber and helping Nubs complete the course. His split attention causes Brightstar drop Nubs right before the timer expires.
Brightstar characterizes Solay as someone who is “quick and knows all about creatures”. At one point Solay helps Durango recover an escaped tooka kitten. Durango had been delivering the creature to an animal preserve outside of town.
Behind the Scenes
Lys Solay and her purple-bladed lightsaber first appear in Star Wars Canon in Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures, an animated series geared for younger viewers. Series creator Michael Olson states that Solay’s personality and traits are based on his daughter.
Solay is a Pantoran, a blue-skinned, humanoid species. Star Wars creator George Lucas plays a small role as a Pantoran in Revenge of the Sith (2005).
