Luke Skywalker Force FX Lightsaber Description

The Luke Skywalker Force FX lightsaber includes the lightsaber hilt with fixed blade (non-removable) and a clear acrylic lightsaber stand/wall mount. Unscrew the pommel to access the removable battery pack. Lightsaber requires 3 AA batteries (not included). The original retail price of the lightsaber is $149.99.

The full size, real metal hilt is inspired by the design of the modified Graflex flashgun handle prop used in the movie Star Wars: A New Hope. Activate the lightsaber by sliding up the bubble strip in the middle of the hilt.

A D-ring attaches to the removable pommel. Since the hilt and blade are permanently attached, it’s not very easy or practical to wear the lightsaber. It may be possible for the owner to acquire a lightsaber holster in order to wear the hilt/blade assembly more like a medieval sword.

Hasbro later released the similar Rey (Jedi Training) Force FX Lightsaber. The two lightsabers have some design differences. Additionally, Hasbro also released a different Luke Skywalker lightsaber model called the Luke Skywalker Force FX Lightsaber (green blade, ROTJ).

Lightsaber Blade, Visual Effects, and Sound Effects

The Luke Skywalker Force FX lightsaber uses fixed string blade, a type of plastic blade containing a string of LEDs inside the blade. The LED string facilitates the progressive ignition (i.e. saber scroll effect) of the blade illumination originating near the hilt and extending to the end of near the blade tip. The process reverses to create a blade retraction effect.

One of the drawbacks of the string blade style is string blades may develop dead zone spots in the LED string, particularly after the LED string is damaged from contact. Note that Force FX lightsabers are NOT recommended for dueling since dueling may damage the LED string or even break the fixed blade off the hilt.

The lightsaber sounds are inspired by the actual Luke Skywalker lightsaber sounds in Star Wars: A New Hope. Sound effects include: ignition sound, retraction sound and a motion-sensitive swing sounds, clash sound and idle hum.
