A lightsaber using obsidian as its kyber crystal emits a red blade. Additionally, an obsidian shard is affixed to Snoke’s ring. Parts of Fortress Vader are constructed from the material as well.

Obsidian in in Star Wars Canon
Obsidian has been mined and extracted from the lava planet Mustafar. The planet features obsidian mountain ranges and shores.
An unknown quantity obsidian shards were mined from a dark side shrine. The dark side imbued obsidian may serve as a kyber crystal, presumably for a dark side Force user, inside a lightsaber. An obsidian-equipped lightsaber emits a red blade.
Obsidian’s usage extends beyond lightsaber construction. Portions of Fortress Vader, Darth Vader’s castle on the lava planet Mustafar, are constructed from obsidian. Snoke, Supreme Leader of the First Order, wears a gold ring with a shard of obsidian affixed to its top.
Obsidian in Star Wars Legends
In Star Wars Legends, obsidian originates from the planets: Bassadro, Mindor, Mustafar and Nam Chorios. Mustafarians craft obsidian-forged lances and swords. The material is also used during the construction of Darth Vader’s helmet. The Shadow Throne on the planet Mindor is constructed out of polished obsidian as well.
Black Kyber Crystal (Obsidian) at Galaxy’s Edge
The mysterious and scarce black kyber crystal is the rarest of the seven kyber crystal colors from Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge. The black kyber crystal is randomly inserted in red kyber crystal canisters at Dok Ondar’s Den of Antiquities.
Like the red kyber crystal, the RFID chipped black kyber crystal unlocks a red blade on a Savi’s Workshop lightsaber. The black kyber crystal also unlocks Yoda’s voice in a Jedi Holocron and Snoke’s voice in a Sith Holocron.

Obsidian is a real world volcanic rock. The hard and brittle material is smooth and glassy. Since the material fractures into sharp edges, obsidian may be crafted into blades and arrowheads.
