Ri-Lee Howell in Star Wars Canon

Jedi Master Ri-Lee Howell serves the Jedi Order during ancient times as a dedicated historian. He compiles Aionomica, a two-volume collection of sacred Jedi texts. Aionomica compiles early accounts and explorations of the Force. The texts are eventually stored in the tree library on the planet Ahch-To. Jedi Master Luke Skywalker comes into the possession of the texts. Rey eventually acquires the texts in 34 ABY.

Behind the Scenes

Ri-Lee Howell is first mentioned in the reference book Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary (2019). Lucasfilm named the character Ri-Lee Howell in honor of Riley Howell, a University of North Carolina at Charlotte student and long-time Star Wars fan. Howell tackled the gunman during a 2019 school shooting. His actions helped other students escape. Howell and one other student died during the shooting.

There are currently no official images of Ri-Lee Howell of his lightsaber. Artist Shafi Adam created unofficial/non-Canon artwork of Ri-Lee Howell, however. In the piece, Jedi Master Ri-Lee Howell wields a yellow-bladed lightsaber in one hand, while clutching a book in the other. The artist created the piece for the Riley Howell Foundation in late 2020.
