Darth Ruin Lightsaber in Star Wars Legends

Jedi Master Phanius, the individual who would become known as Darth Ruin, initially serves the Jedi Order. Renowned for his intellect and charism, Phanius develops a self-centered philosophy, perceiving his own mind as being the only thing that truly exists. His individualistic approach draws him to the dark side and leads him to leave the Jedi Order. Phanius becomes an early member of the Lost Twenty, a group of Jedi who leave the Jedi Order due to philosophical differences.

He studies the dark side of the Force and sets out to revive the Sith Order and enact revenge against the Jedi Order for not supporting his self-centered philosophy. He searches for various scattered Sith clans–cults that worship Sith philosophy. At some point during his quest he takes on the name Darth Ruin and declares himself a Dark Lord of the Sith. He inspires fifty Jedi to leave the Jedi Order and join his cause.

His efforts culminate in the resurgence of a Sith faction known as the New Sith. Darth Ruin initiates the New Sith Wars, a galaxy-wide conflict between the New Sith and the Jedi Order and Republic.

Self-centered and impulsive, Darth Ruin holds his followers in low regard and perceives them as expendable. He routinely sacrifices followers seemingly on a whim in order to serve his own purpose or impulse. His individualism blinds him to the possibility of his followers conspiring against him. Ruin is ultimately assassinated.
