Jedi Guardians frequently wield blue lightsaber in Star Wars Legends. A Jedi Guardian is a Jedi who specializes in martial training and combat. Guardians help maintain order and stability and commonly specialize as: a Lightsaber Instructor, a Jedi Ace (pilot/dogfighter), a Jedi Peacekeeper (security and law enforcer) or an Exotic Weapons Specialist.

The first blue lightsabers in Star Wars Canon are the Skywalker lightsaber and the Obi-Wan Kenobi lightsaber in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977). A blue lightsaber is the second lightsaber color shown in a Star Wars movie, following the introduction of the red lightsaber.
