Skere Kaan Lightsaber in Star Wars Legends

Skere Kaan ascends to the rank of Jedi Master during the New Sith Wars. He serves the Jedi Order and the Republic during the war, developing particular proficiency in battle meditation. He becomes disillusioned with the Jedi. Kaan defects from the Jedi Order along with a group of loyal Jedi followers. Kaan declares himself a Dark Lord of the Sith and creates the Sith organization the Brotherhood of Darkness in 1010 BBY. His followers come to refer to him simply as “Dark One”.

Skere Kaan sets out on a quest for supremacy among the many splintered Sith groups. He endeavors to dominate and reunite various Sith groups under his command. Any group refusing to submit to his command would be destroyed. Several powerful Sith warlords join Lord Kaan and his cause, including: Kopecz, Qordis, Kas’im, LaTor and Kaox Krul. In an attempt to minimize jealously and infighting among his followers, he bans the use of the traditional title “Darth” and states that “All are equal in the Brotherhood of Darkness”.

Meanwhile, Jedi Lord Hoth becomes displeased with the Jedi Order’s inaction against the increasing threat of Kaan. Hoth leaves his position as Battlemaster at the Jedi Temple. He forms the Army of Light, a military force of Jedi and Republic troops, in order to combat Lord Kaan’s forces.

Lord Kaan defeats Lord Hoth in the Battle of Korriban. Following the victory, Kaan reopens a Sith Academy on Korriban, the Sith homeworld. Under the leadship of Kaan, the Sith enjoy a series of early victories against the Army of Light.

By the time of the Fourth Battle of Ruusan, one of the final battles of the New Sith Wars, Lord Kaan’s Brotherhood of Darkness is vastly outnumbered in battle and are suffering a high casualty rate.

Several prominent Dark Lords come to doubt his leadership including Githany, Kopecz, and Darth Bane. Although Kaan commands Bane’s death, the resilient and powerful Bane survives two assassination attempts.

Bane approach Kaan with a new battle strategy. Lord Kaan, surprised to find Bane alive, approves Bane’s tactical advice. The surviving members of the Brotherhood of Darkness all meditate and channel their dark energy into Bane. Their combines power devastates the Army of Light and turns the tide of the war in favor of the Sith.

Perceiving imminent victory, Lord Kaan commands that the Sith break the medication and finish the battle on the field. Lord Kaan’s forces again suffer heavy loses and he regroups in a cave. He makes plans to unleash a thought bomb, a powerful energy burst conjured from an ancient dark side ritual. He believes the burst would kill all of the Jedi and that the Sith would be powerful enough to survive.

When Jedi Lord Hoth and the Army of Light confront Lord Kaan, the Sith Lord and his followers enact the thought bomb. The blast kills all of the present Jedi and Sith alike, ending the New Sith Wars. Darth Bane, Zannah, and Darovit are far from the cave. They survive the blast and escape.
