Sharad Hett passes his lightsaber down to his son, A’Sharad Hett, the individual who becomes Darth Krayt.

Sharad Hett in Star Wars Legends

At a young age, Sharad Hett leaves his family in the Outer Rim to study the ways of the Force at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. Jedi Master Eeth Koth selects him as a Padawan. Hett constructs his Jedi lightsaber and ascends to the rank of Jedi Knight. He serves the Jedi Order as a Jedi Guardian. Hett, who serves as a Jedi Guardian, gains fame and renown within the Jedi Order. He becomes disillusioned with the fame and develops a desire to reunite with his family in the Outer Rim.

Sharad Hett leaves the Jedi and seeks out his family on a planet in the Outer Rim. He finds the planet in ruins learns his family has perished. Devastated, Sharad Hett goes into self-imposed exile on the planet Tatooine. He joins a tribe of Tusken Raiders, learning about their culture and their ways. Hett becomes the warlord of the tribe. He marries a human woman named K’Sheek. They have a son named A’Sharad Hett. He trains A’Sharad Hett in the ways of Jedi.

Crime lord Jabba the Hutt incites violence on Tatooine between humans and Tusken Raiders as a way of offloading his stockpile of antiquated blasters. Sharad Hett leads the Tusken Raiders during the skirmishes. He tries to minimize civilian casualties as much as possible, but draws the attention of the Jedi Order as a lightsaber-wielding individual dressed in Tusken Raider clothing. Due to Hett’s fame, many Jedi quickly recognize the Sharad Hett lightsaber immediately.

The Jedi Order dispatches Jedi Knight Ki-Adi-Mundi to Tatooine to investigate and bring back Hett to Coruscant. Despite hearing news of the resurgent Sith, Hett refuses to go to Coruscant, saying his place is on Tatooine with the Tusken Raiders.

Final Duel and Death

When Jabba the Hutt launches a surprise attack on the Tuskens, Hett again leads the Tuskens in battle. Bounty hunter Aurra Sing engages him in lightsaber combat. After creating a distraction, Sing defeats him, stabbing him in the chest with her lightsaber. His dying wish is for his son to join the Jedi Order and for Ki-Adi-Mundi to personally select A’Sharad Hett as his Padawan. Ki-Adi-Mundi agrees and fulfills his promise. Sharad Hett passes his lightsaber down to A’Sharad. A’Sharad Hett wields the lightsaber throughout the Clone Wars.

Behind the Scenes

The Sharad Hett lightsaber first appears in the comic book Star Wars 7: Outlander, Part 1 (1999). The lightsaber also appears in the reference book The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia (2008).
