The Ren (Lightsaber) in Star Wars Canon
The Force-sensitive human male known as Ren leads the Knights of Ren. The dark side Force users adhere to the philosophy epitomized by The Ren (lightsaber) itself. Ren explains the philosophy. “The Ren just is. It lives, and it consumes, and it doesn’t apologize. It is its nature and nothing else. I believe in that principle on a deep, deep level. In fact, I’ve dedicated my life to it.”
Ren and the Knights of Ren roam the galaxy, operating on a flexible code. The group lives the way they want and takes what they want. They travel the galaxy searching for new members and leaving a path of destruction in their wake.
The Knights of Ren discover an ancient Jedi outpost on the planet Elphrona and seek to steal the artifacts. The Knights of Ren encounter Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, his Padawan Ben Solo and the explorer Lor San Tekka. After Skywalker tells the to leave the artifacts alone, the Knights of Ren surround Skywalker. Skywalker defeats the Knights of Ren, destroying all of their weapons. Ren and the Knights of Ren eventually depart.
Ben Solo later asks to join the Knights of Ren. Solo and Ren end up fighting. “Here’s your good death,” Ben Solo says to Ren. Ben Solo strikes down Ren. Solo takes on the name Kylo Ren and becomes the new leader of the Knights of Ren.
