The Lowbacca lightsaber is a single-bladed bronze lightsaber wielded by Jedi Knight Lowbacca. Lowbacca, who goes by the nickname Lowie, is a New Republic era male Wookiee Jedi Knight in Star Wars Legends. He is the nephew of Chewbacca. Lowbacca constructs the lightsaber with salvaged parts from a control room.

Lowbacca Lightsaber in Star Wars Legends

The Lowbacca lightsaber is comprised of a cylindrical hilt sized to fit a Wookiee’s hands. The lightsaber emits a bronze, wide, club-shaped blade. The Jedi lightsaber is equipped with a spherical enhancement jewel that serves as a lightsaber crystal.

Lowbacca studies the ways of the Force at the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin 4. In 23 ABY, Luke Sykwalker decides Lowbacca and his peers Tenel Ka Djo, Jacen Solo and Jaina Solo are ready to construct their own lightsabers. The tech-savvy Lowbacca constructs his lightsaber using salvaged parts from a former Rebel control room on Yavin 4. The Jedi serves the New Republic and the Jedi Order during the Yuuzhan Vong War.

Behind the Scenes

The Lowbacca lightsaber is first described in novel Star Wars: Young Jedi Knights: Lightsabers (1996). The lightsaber is first pictured on the cover of the novel Star Wars: Young Jedi Knights: Darkest Knight (1996).
