An’ya Kuro Lightsaber in Star Wars Legends

The An’ya Kuro lightsaber is comprised of an intricately-detailed cylindrical hilt. The design features a flared emitter and winding, plant vine-style detailing throughout the hilt. The Jedi lightsaber emits a purple blade.

An’ya Kuro demonstrates speed, dexterity and acrobatic maneuvering during lightsaber combat. She shows proficiency in Jar’Kai, the dual lightsaber fighting technique. Kuro also exhibits powerful and uncommon Jedi Force powers including: Force healing, Force teleporation, Force cloaking, and the ability to control plant matter. She also uses Phase, a Force power enabling the user to pass through solid objects like walls.

Serving the Jedi Order

Jedi Master An’ya Kuro serves the Jedi Order in the waning years of the Republic. As an expression of Jedi detachment, Kuro abandons her name and answers to the moniker the Dark Woman. As a Jedi Knight, the Dark Woman travels the galaxy to find Force-sensitive children that the Republic may have missed. During her travels she discovers future Jedi Council member Ki-Adi-Mundi.

When the Dark Woman takes on apprentice, she implements unusual, harsh but effective training methods. The Jedi Council frequently assigns challenging trainees to her. The Dark Woman finds a child who would become Aurra Sing. While the child is training under the Dark Woman, Aurra Sing is kidnapped by pirates. The pirates tell the child that the Jedi sold her to them. Believing the lie, Aurra Sing grows up hating Jedi.

Self Imposed Exile and Return

Following Sing’s loss, the Dark Woman goes into self imposed exile. She mediates on her training methods and role as a Jedi for twelve years. When she returns to Coruscant, she wields her lightsaber in a training duel with Ki-Adi-Mundi’s new Padawan, A’Sharad Hett.

The Dark Woman’s former apprentice, Aurra Sing, assassinates two Jedi and becomes a notorious Jedi killer and bounty hunter. Although the Jedi Council asks the Dark Woman to pursue her former apprentice, the Jedi Master declines. A Jedi task force comprised of Ki-Adi-Mundi, his apprentice A’Sharad Hett, and Adi Gallia, hunts for Aurra Sing.

Clone Wars, Great Jedi Purge, and Death

During the Clone Wars, the Dark Woman serves as a spy rather than a Jedi General. The Dark Woman escapes death during the early stages of the Great Jedi Purge. She seeks refuge on the planet Cophrigin V, living as a hermit.

After Emperor’s Hand Mara Jade locates the Jedi Master’s hiding place, Emperor Palpatine dispatches Darth Vader to eliminate her. The Dark Woman and Darth Vader engage in a lightsaber duel in 1 BBY. Darth Vader ultimately strikes her down and she becomes one with the Force.
