The Disney Parks Jedi Training Academy Lightsaber toy is a non-electronic lightsaber toy with an extendable blue blade. The lightsaber is also available with a green blade or a sinister red blade (for the Sith in your life). The Jedi Training Academy lightsaber, a Disney Parks exclusive, has a generic Padawan training lightsaber design. The top of the lightsaber looks a little bit like the Darth Maul lightsaber.

The top of the package is adorned with the Disney Parks Authentic Original logo, which is the logo you’ll see on lots of the Parks exclusive merchandise. Below the Disney Parks logo, the package is emblazoned with the Star Wars logo and reads “Extendable Lightsaber”. The lightsaber is designed for ages 4 and up. The middle part of the packaging reads “Jedi Training Academy”. These are the same lightsabers that Disney previously lent out to participants during the Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple Experience.
The Disney Parks Jedi Training Academy Lightsaber toy features a telescoping blade. In order to extend the blade, simply slide down the button (i.e. the direction that the arrow on the button is pointing) and flick your wrist to extend the blade.
A segmented, medium blue blade extends out of the hilt (Disney offers additional blade color options). The blade is segmented into four sections. Retract the blade by gently pushing the blade back into the hilt. The blade retracts all of the way into the hilt.
Since the blade does not slide out of the hilt without sliding down the button the Jedi Training Academy Lightsaber toy may be worn as a cosplay piece on the belt. The Jedi Training Academy lightsaber is equipped with a sturdy belt clip that enables the wielder to wear the lightsaber hilt on their belt (or pants waistband). Without the blade extended, the lightsaber hilt measures about 10 inches long.
The hilt mostly a silverish color with some dark gray accents and some attractive, alternating gold coloring near the top of the hilt. The only functional button on the toy is sliding switch with the arrow, which unlocks the blade and allows the wielder to extend the blade.
Two fake buttons, which look like decorative activation switches, are situated on the rear of the lightsaber hilt. The hilt design incorporates additional ‘lightsabery’ raised or indented features, including some extruded rings and stadium shaped indentations. Overall, the Disney Parks Jedi Training Academy lightsaber is very much a bread and butter extendable lightsaber toy with a solid colored blade and without any electronics. The affordably priced toy seems suitable for casual lightsaber fun and would make a fine addition to a young Star Wars fan’s collection.
