Cyan Lightsaber Blade Color Meaning and History in Star Wars

A cyan lightsaber, sometimes called a teal lightsaber, is a greenish-blue lightsaber blade color in Star Wars Canon and Star Wars Legends. Cal Kestis may optionally wield a cyan-bladed lightsaber in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019), a video game in Star Wars Canon.

Cyan Lightsabers in Star Wars Canon

The cyan lightsaber joined Star Wars Canon in the video game Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. Cal Kestis, the playable lead character in the game, may optionally wield a cyan lightsaber. Kestis is the Jedi Padawan of Jedi Master Jaro Tapal during the Clone Wars. Kestis narrowly escapes death during the enactment of Order 66 and goes into hiding.

Cyan Lightsabers in Star Wars Legends

Old Republic era Jedi Master Meetra Surrik, sometimes referred to as “Jedi Exile”, wields a cyan lightsaber in Star Wars Legends. Jedi Nikkos Tyris, who serves as a Jedi during the waning years of the Republic, wields a lightsaber with an azure blade. Tyris, who favors lightsaber combat Form V: Shien, falls to the dark side of the Force and is one of Count Dooku’s allies during the Clone Wars.

Additionally, a player may optionally wield a cyan lightsaber in the video games Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords (2004) and Star Wars: The Old Republic (2011), and in Star Wars Galaxies (2003). In Star Wars Galaxies, teal/cyan lightsabers are equipped with the rare Sunrider’s Destiny lightsaber crystal. Sunrider’s Destiny creates a lightsaber blade that is a bit more greenish in color than cyan, however.

Cyan Lightsabers in Real Life

No officially licensed cyan lightsabers exist in real life. Cyan appears to be an unreleased color for the Savi’s Workshop build your own lightsaber experience at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland and Disney World.

Jaymoo’s Playground developed an unofficial, custom Savi’s Workshop compatible blade capable of emitting a teal / cyan blade. Many custom saber companies offer a cyan blade color option (Ultrasabers calls their cyan blade color option “Sunrider’s Destiny”). Lightsaber enthusiasts with customizable RGB lightsabers and neopixel sabers may be able to select a cyan blade color.

Cyan Lightsaber Color Theory

Cyan is a greenish-blue color. Colors within a similar range to cyan include: teal, turquoise, electric blue, aquamarine and other green-blue/blue-green colors. Cyan is a calming and peaceful color associated with lagoons and tropical waters.

Someone considering choosing a cyan lightsaber may consider alternatively choosing a more common lightsaber color like blue or green.
