Darth Sion, an Old Republic era Sith Lord, serves as an apprentice to Darth Traya and a Sith Marauder in Exar Kun’s Sith Empire during the Great Sith War. Sion fills himself with hatred, achieving the rare power of overcoming death.

Darth Sion Lightsaber in Star Wars Legends
The Darth Sion lightsaber is a single bladed Sith lightsaber that emits a red blade. Darth Sion and Darth Nihilus train under Darth Traya during the Old Republic era. Ultimately the two apprentices become frustrated with Traya’s teachings. Sion and Nihilus strip their former master of the Force and cast her out.
Darth Sion develops the rare dark side skill of achieving immortality, but at the cost of suffering intensive, immersive and constant agony. By channeling his pain, anger and hatred, the Sith Lord develops the ability of rising from the dead. His cracked and decomposing body is held together only by the power of dark side of the Force.
A fearsome and tenacious warrior, Darth Sion fights in a lightsaber duel with Jedi Exile Meetra Surik. Surik strikes Sion down four times. Each time the Sith Lord channels the dark side in order to come back to life. Surik ultimately helps Sion realize his life of pain has diminished him, making him suffer from permanent weakness and dependence. Sion finally allows himself to die and he become one with the Force.
Behind the Scenes
The Darth Sion lightsaber first appears in Star Wars Legends in the video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords (2004). The lightsaber is first identified as the Darth Sion lightsaber in the video game Star Wars: The Old Republic (2011).
The Darth Sion lightsaber is also depicted in the mobile collectible RPG game Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (2015). In the game, Darth Scion wields the lightsaber using a reverse grip.
