The BladeBuilders Kylo Ren lightsaber is about 28.25 inches long (the hilt section is 10.5 inches long, the main red blade extends about 17.75 inches long). The side blades are about 8.25 inches across, extended (each red side blade measures about 2 inches across). The lightweight toy is recommended for ages 4 and up and retails for around $10 or less.
The telescoping main blade extends out of the hilt when the wielder flicks their wrist. The full extension of the main blade triggers the release of the two spring-loaded, telescoping side blades (quillons). The blades feature a thin, swerving, indented line pattern that mimics the fiery, unstable Kylo Ren lightsaber blades depicted in the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy.
The crossguard hilt is mostly black with some silver, gold, red and blue paint accents. A painted red wire section runs between the silver colored exposed panel section near the emitter and pommel. The ‘red wire’ is permanently attached and built into the plastic hilt.
The pommel (end cap) area of the lightsaber features the only BladeBuilders compatible segment of the lightsaber. The pommel area is a BladeBuilders socket section that could connect to a BladeBuilders plug section. The basic BladeBuilders Kylo Ren lightsaber does NOT include a separate connector/coupler piece.
The spring-loaded side blades are the most exciting and distinctive feature on the lightsaber. The convenient BladeBuilders compatiblilty allows wielders to combine the lightsaber with crazy combos of other BladeBuilders lightsaber toys, increasing the play value. Overall, the basic BladeBuilders Kylo Ren lightsaber toy is a fun, simple and budget friendly crossguard lightsaber toy good for younger kids.
