A saber builder program only draws on lightsaber parts that are manufactured by their respective company (e.g. Saber Parts only uses Saberforge pieces and MHS Builder only uses The Custom Saber Shop pieces).

A saber builder empowers the user to combine modular parts on screen in order to get an idea what the hilt would look like in real life. The user can assess how buttons will align, components may clash in color or design, and ultimately how much the user likes the overall look of the custom hilt.

A benefit of a saber builder is the program allows a user to digitally assemble HUNDREDS of combinations of custom lightsabers before buying, even if the lightsaber enthusiasts is unable or unwilling to purchase ultimately purchase a lightsaber. Some lightsaber enthusiasts intentionally configure strange or unusual combinations of parts just for the fun of creating a strange design and sharing it with other Star Wars fans and lightsaber enthusiasts.
