A clamp card is a pretty popular finishing piece, or greeblie, that people like to use with their Star Wars Original Trilogy style lightsabers. Lightsaber enthusiasts also use clamp cards with their own custom designs that include activation boxes. Using a clamp card is a neat way to give a lightsaber a ‘Star Wars’ feel since clamp cards are so strongly associated with many of the Original Trilogy lightsaber designs.

Most standard sized lightsaber clamp cards are about 2 inches long and range in width from around 0.57 inches to 0.63 inches. Clamp cards often require modification (i.e. sanding down or trimming) in order to install them on lightsaber hilts.

The Custom Saber Shop, which is currently the largest custom lightsaber parts store, carries three styles of basic clamp cards. The cards are called: Red Card, Black Card, and Natural Card (i.e. a greenish color). All three cards are the same design–they just each use a different color of plastic.
The Red Card in particular is a bit of a departure from most clamp cards on the market, because none of the movie hilts use a red card. The cards are located in the MHSV1 Clamps & Boxes section on The Custom Saber Shop’s website.

Do yourself a favour. Don’t ever order anything from custom saber shops because they are pirates. They will charge you 4 times as much as any item is worth, and then twice that again for shipping. The “clamp card” can be made from the contact strips off old PCB boards, PC graphics cards and sound cards. I find old computers for free, strip the parts our and use them for lightsabers. The effect is identical, and best of all, FREE.
