Lasat Jedi are rare in Star Wars. Lasats are a tall, physically strong and agile humanoid species. Lasats have strong legs and large fingers and toes making them fast runners, nimble jumpers, and excellent climbers. They have excellent sight and hearing as well due to their large eyes and large, pointed ears as well.
Early Lasats originate from Lira San, a remote Wild Space planet hidden behind a nebula. Many Lasats leave their homeworld, however, and settle on the Outer Rim Territories planet Lasan. Tragically, during the reign of the Galactic Empire Imperial forces raid Lasan and destroy most of its inhabitants.
Fun fact, the appearance of Lasats takes inspiration from 1970s Ralph McQuarrie concept art. The artwork envisions an early version of the character who would become the lovable Wookiee pilot and smuggler Chewbacca.
Famous Lasats include Ghost crew member Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios and Cal Kestis’ mentor Jedi Master Jaro Tapal. Let’s explore all of the Lasat Jedi in Star Wars. Currently, there are only two Jedi of this species.

Jedi Master Jaro Tapal
Jaro Tapal, a Lasat male, trains as a Jedi prior to the Clone Wars. Jedi Master Yaddle trains him as her Padawan. Tapal ascends to the rank of the Jedi Master. He serves as a Jedi General during the Clone Wars and mentors Padawan Cal Kestis.
In 19 BBY, Tapal, Kestis, and clone forces combat the Confederacy of Independent Systems’ attempt to invade and take control the planet Bracca. Shortly after the mission, Darth Sidious enacts Order 66, a command to clone troopers to eliminate all Jedi. Tapal senses the impeding betrayal of the clone commander standing next to him and manages to strike him down first. Knowing that more clone troopers are on the way, Tapal and Kestis plan to escape their Republic warship.
The two split up and make their way to the ship’s escape pod bay. Although both Tapal and Kestis manage to arrive at the bay at the same time, the overwhelming forces of clone troopers mortally wound Tapal. Tapal sacrifices himself for his Padawan, giving Kestis his broken lightsaber before the Padawan deploys his escape pod. Kestis manages to survive the ordeal and, like other Jedi survivors of Order 66, goes into hiding.

Jedi Master Poreht La
Jedi Master Poreht La, a Lasat male individual, ascends to the rank of Jedi Master during the High Republic era. Due to his expertise in ancient Force techniques, the Jedi High Council selects La to go on a mission alongside fellow Jedi Masters Giktoo Nelmo and Tia Mirabel. The trio are tasked with examining and undertaking a ritual to purify four potentially dark side-imbued statues.
