Darth Maul Legacy Lightsaber is an officially licensed lightsaber hilt packed into a gray plastic cargo style box. Hilt includes a coupler so you can combine two single Maul hilts together to form a saberstaff. The Darth Maul Legacy Lightsaber hilt is part of Disney’s first wave of legacy lightsabers that first became available in 2019 at Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities at Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge.
Disney released a different Maul lightsaber, called the Maul Shadow Legacy Lightsaber, in December 2021.

Hilt Description
The Darth Maul legacy lightsaber hilt is mostly metal with a silver color scheme with metallic red thumbscrews and black accents in some of the grooves. The red thumbscrew closest to the blade holder serves as the activation switch. A black Covertec wheel attaches to the hilt below the blade holder. The wheel attaches to the Galaxy’s Edge belt clip, which is sold separately, so that the wielder may wear the hilt on their belt. Hilt box includes a coupler, which is tucked out of the way in the bottom of the box.

The Darth Maul Legacy Lightsaber hilt includes:

Consider that without an attached Galaxy’s Edge lightsaber blade (sold separately), the hilt will not make any sounds or light up in any way. Basically the hilt makes a great display piece or cosplay piece without the blade, but doesn’t actually ‘do’ anything without the attached blade even though the hilt includes batteries. Although the Savi’s Workshop lightsabers make a electric charge-like ‘misfire’ sound when you attempt to activate the hilt without an attached blade, legacy lightsabers don’t make any sound at all without a blade.
Combine Two Single Hilts to Form a Saberstaff
Each Darth Maul legacy lightsaber hilt includes a coupler. Use the coupler to combine two Darth Maul Legacy Lightsabers hilts to form the double-bladed Darth Maul lightsaber from Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Alternatively, combine a Darth Maul Legacy lightsaber with a Maul Shadow Legacy Lightsaber to form the double-bladed Maul lightsaber from Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7.
Finding a Replacement Coupler
Keep track of your coupler. You don’t want to lose the coupler. Galaxy’s Edge does not sell replacement couplers. Also couplers made custom saber companies are NOT compatible with the Darth Maul legacy lightsaber hilt either. If you’re lucky you may be able to find someone selling a spare Maul coupler on eBay or elsewhere secondhand.
Choosing a Blade Length for a Maul Single Hilt or Saberstaff
If you’d like to use the lightsaber, then getting a Galaxy’s Edge lightsaber blade for the hilt is an absolute must. If you already have a blade from a Savi’s Workshop lightsaber, you can use the same blade with your Darth Maul legacy lightsaber. The Savi’s Workshop lightsaber blade measures 31 inches long.
If you don’t have a blade yet, you can buy a blade at Dok-Ondar’s Den of antiquities. The shop offers two blade length options: 26 inches or 36 inches. If you plan to use the Maul lightsaber as a single hilt, generally a 36 inch blade is considered full length. A 26 inch blade is suitable for children, shorter adults, and individuals intending to wield the saber inside with shorter ceilings. If you plan to combine two Maul hilts together to form a saberstaff, two 26 inch blades will be more manageable to maneuver than two 36 inch blades.
Custom Legacy Lightsaber Compatible Blades
Etsy seller JaymoosPlayground makes a custom lightsaber blade that is compatible with legacy lightsabers and Savi’s Workshop lightsabers. The custom blade is brighter and more vibrant than the Galaxy’s Edge blade. Additionally, the company offers custom blade lengths ranging from 20 inches to 36 inches.

Note that JaymoosPlayground is currently the ONLY custom saber company we’re aware of that makes a Galaxy’s Edge compatible blade.
Dark Gray Legacy Lightsaber Cargo Box
The Darth Maul legacy lightsaber comes conveniently packed inside dark gray cargo style box enabling easy storage and transportion of the hilt. Box, which is made of plastic, features a rugged industrial design sensibility with grid and Death Star corridor flourishes. The two ends of the box somewhat resemble the Imperial TIE fighter wings.
Box uses an opening clam-shell lid. Hold down the Sith emblem with red background in order to open the lid of the box and easily (and attractively!) display the hilt on your shelf. The red background matches the red blade of the Darth Maul lightsaber. The Sith emblem denotes Maul’s allegiance to the Sith Order. Dok-Ondar’s Den sells the Galaxy’s Edge lightsaber blade separately from the hilt.
Although most standard legacy lightsabers comes in a similar cargo box, the box size varies from from hilt to hilt. The fabric-covered, injection-molded tray inside the box also forms to the shape of a specific hilt. Turn the box over to find easy battery replacement instructions and the discreet sticker identifying the item as the ‘Darth Maul Legacy Lightsaber Hilt’.

A Few Words About Kyber Crystals
Galaxy’s Edge kyber crystals are NOT compatible with the Darth Maul legacy lightsaber or any legacy lightsaber for that matter. Kyber crystals only function with Savi’s Workshop lightsabers and Galaxy’s Edge holocrons. That said, you could get a red kyber crystal simply to put on display next to your lightsaber.
