Darth Tenebrous Lightsaber in Star Wars Legends

A Twi’lek Sith Lord selects Rugess Nome as an apprentice. Nome adopts the Sith name Darth Tenebrous. In order to hide his Sith identity, he continues using the Rugess Nome name in public and cultivates galaxy-wide fame for his legendary starship building skills.

Meanwhile, Tenebrous and his master covertly dedicate their lives to advancing the Grand Plan, a centuries-long Sith strategy for destroying the Jedi Order and the Republic. Tenebrous constructs a red-bladed Sith lightsaber and hones his lightsaber combat skills. Tenebrous kills his master after deciding his master had outlived his usefulness. He takes on Darth Plagueis as an apprentice.

Darth Tenebrous and Darth Plageuis work together to expand their vast network of agents and informants. As Tenebrous and Plagueis visit the planet Bal’demnic, Plagueis seizes an opportunity to kill his master. Plagueis collapses a cave on Tenebrous and snaps his master’s neck. Plagueis uses the Force to examine the subtle and gradual decline of his master until Tenebrous dies.

Behind the Scenes

The Darth Tenebrous lightsaber first appears in Star Wars Legends in the 2011 short story “The Tenebrous Way” by Matthew Stover. First published in Star Wars Insider Magazine 130, the short story includes Brian Wood illustrations of a lightsaber-wielding Darth Tenebrous.

Although the Tenebrous character joins Star Wars Canon in the reference book Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary (2019), the character’s lightsaber has not yet been mentioned.
