The small diameter of the SSOb makes the hilt comfortable in the hand and especially suitable for younger users or people with smaller hands. The diameter is somewhat consistent throughout the hilt, although the design features a shallow taper below the emitter section and above the pommel. The pommel cubes are the widest part of the hilt. The pommel cubes, red switch, and brass knob are all low-profile in design and don’t stick out as much as similar features would on a different Obi-Wan Kenobi style lightsaber hilt. The hilt is about 10.75 inches long and 1.5 inches in diameter. SSOb is designed to accommodate 1 inch diameter blades. The blade socket is 2 inches deep. SSOb consists of two main components: a body and removable pommel at the base.
The emitter section of the hilt features a blade retention screw near the top. Three metallic silver colored dummy LED bezels encircle the hilt. The bezels are held in place with three Philips screws. The hilt kit includes a set of clear domes and a set of iridescent domes that could be glued over the screws to make the hilt look more in-universe.
The brass knob, which holds the heatsink in place, features a purple gem-like dome in its center. SSOb includes a custom-notched copper aluminum heatsink inside of the hilt. Arguably, one of the defining features of Obi-Wan Kenobi style lightsaber hilt is the signature red button near the top of the hilt. SSOb uses a metallic red colored low-profile AV switch inside of a knurled outer ring. The hilt slightly tapers below the emitter. Moving lower, we find the grooved black grip section. There’s a pre-drilled screw hole for a Covertec wheel (not included) near the bottom of the body of the hilt.
Some other Obi-Wan Kenobi style hilts use a three-piece pommel consisting of an upper pommel section, cube ring in the middle, and a lower pommel section. The SSOb pommel, however, is one piece and the pommel cubes are fixed to the pommel. The lightsaber hilt is discreetly vented at the base area of the hilt, rather than at the bottom of the pommel.
Overall, SSOb is a slim and sleek character inspired hilt. The hilt is attractively priced as well. One Replicas is currently selling the hilt for about $100 plus shipping and applicable tax.
