What is an off-hand lightsaber? | Lightsaber Terminology

An off-hand lightsaber is a shoto lightsaber wielded as an off-hand weapon during twin-bladed techniques or duels. In twin-bladed fighting styles, the wielder uses the off-hand lightsaber in conjunction with a full-size lightsaber in the main hand. The off-hand lightsaber, which features a smaller and more maneuverable hilt and blade than a full-size lightsaber, is most commonly used as a defensive weapon to deflect and parry strikes from an opponent.

Off-hand Lightsabers Portrayed in Star Wars Media

.Jedi Ahsoka Tano utilizes a two lightsaber fighting style and wields a shoto lightsaber as an off-hand weapon in some storylines in Star Wars canon. Anakin Skywalker also briefly wields two lightsabers against Count Dooku, before the Sith Lord disarms Skywalker (in the literal sense!).

Players of the Star Wars games like The Old Republic (TOR) or Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) will sometimes wield an off-hand lightsaber as well.
